Detailed description

Hidden in an idyllic valley, the Alvenslebenstollen is a silent witness to the mining industry. Once driven into the rock with a hard hand by miners, today it tells of a time when iron ore mining characterised life in the region.
The tunnel was created in the middle of the 19th century and named after the Prussian Minister of State Alvensleben.
The impressive work of the miners can still be seen today: Massive supporting structures, hand-cut tunnels and the rough rock tell of a tough everyday life underground. Courage, hope and the desire for a better life can still be felt there today.
Today, the Alvenslebenstollen is part of the BergbauWanderWeg Burglahr as a visitor mine and offers interested visitors an authentic insight into the working world of the miners. Experience the history of mining through guided tours, information boards along the trail and the lovingly restored facilities - made for young and old alike
As an official GeoPoint in the National GEOPARK Westerwald-Lahn-Taunus, the Alvenslebenstollen is also part of a network of geological and cultural sights recognised throughout Germany. It combines geological history, industrial culture and regional identity in a particularly impressive way.
It is well worth a visit - for anyone who wants to experience nature, history and technology up close.
