Brief description

The Bismarck Tower of Altenkirchen was built in honour of the first German Chancellor Prince Otto von Bismarck (1815-1898).

Detailed description

The Bismarck Tower stands on the Dorn, a hill with a good view of the district town of Altenkirchen.
It was built on the initiative of local citizens. The foundation stone was laid on 1 April 1914, but the opening was delayed due to the First World War. The opening was planned for 1 April 1915, which was delayed by another 7 years.
The monument was restored between 2009 and 2010.
