Lahr Castle

Detailed description

The ruins, which are owned by the municipality, were once part of Lahr Castle in the Electorate of Cologne. This was already inhabited in Roman times.
As mentioned in a document from 1325, the castle comprised the villages of Oberlahr, Burglahr and Heckerfeld. The castle often changed hands and was demonstrably still inhabited until the 18th century. The ruins of the former castle complex with its 25 metre high round tower are one of the most picturesque images of the Wiedbach valley.
On 1 May each year, the flag of the local community of Burglahr is hoisted onto the castle ruins and on the 1st Sunday in Advent, the ruins are decorated with the traditional Christmas tree.
The path up to the castle ruins invites you to take a walk with great viewpoints. There is a small hut on the castle grounds where everyone can celebrate summer parties.
