Experience a chapter of the local and economic history of the Altenkirchen district at the Museum of the City of Kirchen (Sieg) as a cultural and industrial history museum. Exhibition spaces on the Hauberg, agriculture, as well as home and farm illustrate the hard work of our ancestors, the hardships of everyday life through numerous tools and devices that are now often unknown. Brewery, tannery, brickworks, and sawmill, the numerous mines, especially the Friedrichshütte in Wehbach and the Arnold Jung locomotive factory, where world-renowned machine tools were later manufactured, provided jobs for the people beyond the region.
Experience a chapter of the local and economic history of the Altenkirchen district at the Museum of the City of Kirchen (Sieg) as a cultural and industrial history museum. Since 1984, the citizens of Kirchen have been engaging with the past of their town and its surroundings in various ways through the local history association, gathering a vast treasure of photos, documents, and historical objects, most of which can be seen in the museum, reopened in 2005 after a long renovation phase. The museum is divided into several thematic areas. The exhibition spaces on Hauberg, agriculture, and home and yard illustrate the arduous work of our ancestors, the hardships of everyday life, showcased through numerous tools and devices that are often unfamiliar today. Breweries, tanneries, brickworks, and sawmills, as well as numerous mines, especially the Friedrichshütte in Wehbach and the Arnold Jung locomotive factory, where world-renowned machine tools were also produced later, provided work for people beyond the region. A simple living kitchen and an exclusive living room, along with a lovingly furnished bedroom, offer insights into life 100 years ago. The wedding dress made of parachute silk from the later war days always attracts special attention. The history of the districts is presented in a spacious exhibition.
The last built compressed air locomotive from the A. Jung locomotive factory and a fully functional field railway locomotive, alongside an old cast-iron pan in the outdoor area, remind us of the industrial history of the town. The Kirchener Heimattag, held annually in the summer, is an attraction for young and old alike.
