Description

We explore the area around the legendary Druid Stone, examining its history and geology based on old reports and anomalies. The legends and myth-making are discussed as well as the history of the Stations of the Cross.

Afterward, we visit the traces of ancient iron ore mining and iron smelting in the vicinity of the Druid Stone and hike back to the starting point.

The excursion guide to the Druid Stone is available for free.

Payment conditions

The participation fee is to be paid on-site in CASH.

Meeting point is directly in front of the Druid Stone, 57548 Kirchen-Herkersdorf (Please allow about 15 to 20 minutes for the walk from the parking lots)

Approximately 3.5 km long historical-geological tour: Around the national geotope - From the Celts to the church, mining, and the dispute between Neptunists and Vulcanists

Participation fee: Per person 10.00 € and children/teenagers over 12 years 5.00 € each

The tour on 20.09.2026 takes place on the day of the geotope.


Arrival Information

Parking:

1st option

Open space in front of the 1st Station of the Cross, 57548 Kirchen-Herkersdorf, access via Druidenstraße to the beginning of the Historical Stations of the Cross or alternatively

2nd option

Hiking parking lot Druidenstein, access via Offhausen in the direction of Dermbach up to the elevation of the parking lot (on the right side).


From both parking lots, it takes about 15 to 20 minutes to reach the meeting point of the tour at Druidenstein.
