Siegburg/Altenkirchen/Siegen. Two is good, but sometimes three is definitely better: at least that's true for Siegtal pur. After the Siegen-Wittgenstein district did not take part in the big cycling event last year for financial reasons, the three districts will once again be the full line-up of organizers in 2025. This means that from Siegburg via Betzdorf to Netphen, around 115 kilometers of the Siegtal will once again belong to cyclists and inline skaters on Sunday, 6 July.
In December, the Siegen-Wittgenstein district council gave the green light for participation, an important signal in view of a special anniversary: "‘We celebrate what we love’ - this is the motto under which the Siegen-Wittgenstein district is celebrating its 50th birthday this year. Our beautiful river valleys are undoubtedly one of the things we love about our home region. And that's why I'm delighted that the district of Siegen-Wittgenstein is taking part again this year and that, together with our neighbors in the Siegtal valley, we can make the car-free cycling day possible for locals and guests," says District Administrator Andreas Müller.
Altenkirchen District Administrator Dr. Peter Enders was very sorry to hear that the North Rhine-Westphalian partners had decided not to take part in 2024: "Siegtal pur is also always a symbol of the fact that for many people in the region, district and state borders hardly exist. This applies to us in AK both in the direction of the Rhein-Sieg district, but even more so in the Siegerland. In the municipality of Kirchen in particular, we clearly felt last year that an important part of Siegtal pur was missing. So I can only say: welcome back!"
There is also great anticipation at the Siegburg district hall, where Siegtal pur was born in 1996. "The organizational hurdles certainly don't get any lower from year to year, but we know from the annual feedback from an incredible number of participants that this day is of enormous importance to the people of the Siegtal. That's why this date on the first weekend in July is firmly booked," says District Administrator Sebastian Schuster.
However, there was still a construction site to be completed during the planning - and that is to be taken literally: The B 62 between the Erzquell brewery and the traffic circle in Niederschelderhütte is due to be widened this summer with temporary full road closures. In discussions with representatives of the State Mobility Agency in Diez, the planning group was able to ensure that cyclists can pass through the area on one half of the road. However, the popular rest stop with numerous catering options and live music directly in front of the brewery will not be possible this time due to the limited space. However, an alternative will be created in the immediate vicinity.
Apart from that, all cyclists can look forward to the usual supporting program along the route, with many clubs and village communities once again wanting to present themselves as perfect hosts. And what would pure Siegtal be without the Sieg route? A number of special trains will once again ensure that tired calves can recover.
Thalhausermühle forest swimming pool: partial opening from July 10, 2025
Update on the Thalhausermühle forest swimming pool (03.07.25): Partial opening of the leisure and non-swimmer area. After construction work in the pool area, nothing stands in the way of recreational and children's pool fun. Splashing around in the water playground, climbing adventures on the play ship, a round of beach volleyball or a soccer tournament and perhaps enjoying a cold drink or an ice cream... despite the main swimming area still being closed, all of this will be possible again from next week, July 10, 2025 in the popular natural pool in Hamm (Sieg).
“Siegtal pur”: Proven concept with a few innovations
Siegburg/Betzdorf/Siegen/Netphen. Cleaned and oiled the chain? The saddle adjusted and enough air in the tires? If you can put a tick behind these questions, you should have already marked July 6 in your calendar - unless you don't like being out and about and certainly not in company. Because on this Sunday, “Siegtal pur”, the region's big cycling event, will attract thousands of cyclists and inline skaters to the federal and state roads. They will once again have free rein along the Sieg - through the Rhineland, Westerwald and Siegerland. And in keeping with its 50th anniversary, the Siegen-Wittgenstein district will also be taking part again this time, meaning that participants in the three districts of SI, AK and SU will have a route of around 110 kilometers at their disposal.
