Thalhausermühle forest swimming pool: partial opening from July 10, 2025

Update on the Thalhausermühle forest swimming pool (03.07.25): Partial opening of the leisure and non-swimmer area. After construction work in the pool area, nothing stands in the way of recreational and children's pool fun. Splashing around in the water playground, climbing adventures on the play ship, a round of beach volleyball or a soccer tournament and perhaps enjoying a cold drink or an ice cream... despite the main swimming area still being closed, all of this will be possible again from next week, July 10, 2025 in the popular natural pool in Hamm (Sieg).

A warm invitation to all those who have had to be patient so far!

After a leak prevented the pool from opening as planned in mid-June, the Hamm (Sieg) local authority's construction department worked feverishly to find an alternative or partial solution for the leisure and tourist highlight. Now, a good three weeks later, the time has come: the non-swimmer area has been separated and filled with water and is due to open for the first time next week, together with the leisure area (play boat, water playground, beach volleyball, soccer pitch, sunbathing lawns) and the swimming pool kiosk.

Enjoy the summer with cold drinks and soccer games

A consolation for families who have been eagerly awaiting the swimming season and for all those who enjoy using the entire swimming pool area for leisure and sporting activities. This year there is a soccer pitch. This is a first step in response to the wishes of local young people who expressed their desire for a soccer pitch in a discussion with the mayor in May.

Free admission, open from 11 am to 7 pm

Admission is free for all guests this year, and the entire site will be open - weather permitting - from Thursday, July 10, 2025 from Monday to Sunday, always between 11 am and 7 pm. The swimming pool kiosk offers cold drinks and also invites the older guests to meet and linger in a beer garden atmosphere.

Outlook

So the summer season is not completely dry for the natural pool after all. After the water level in the pool was lowered by 1.20 m (less pressure by draining the water), safety concerns for the front area of the pool regarding the stability of the dam have now been allayed - however, in order to solve the main problem of the large pool and seal the leak, there is no other option but to drain the water there.

Unfortunately, the large (main) swimming area still cannot be opened from July 10.

In recent weeks, the amount of information and expert assessments that had to be brought together had made longer-term forecasts difficult and at the same time required a great deal of flexibility, creativity and effort in terms of personnel, materials and logistics from the municipality of Hamm (Sieg) as the operator of the pool in order to react appropriately to the new developments.

However, the fact that the first partial solution was implemented so quickly is particularly encouraging and gives cause for cautious optimism. The administration in Hamm (Sieg) is continuing its efforts to make everything possible that is still feasible for this season: a centerpiece such as the forest swimming pool, which is unique in the region, will not be given up so quickly.

“Siegtal pur”: Proven concept with a few innovations

Siegburg/Betzdorf/Siegen/Netphen. Cleaned and oiled the chain? The saddle adjusted and enough air in the tires? If you can put a tick behind these questions, you should have already marked July 6 in your calendar - unless you don't like being out and about and certainly not in company. Because on this Sunday, “Siegtal pur”, the region's big cycling event, will attract thousands of cyclists and inline skaters to the federal and state roads. They will once again have free rein along the Sieg - through the Rhineland, Westerwald and Siegerland. And in keeping with its 50th anniversary, the Siegen-Wittgenstein district will also be taking part again this time, meaning that participants in the three districts of SI, AK and SU will have a route of around 110 kilometers at their disposal.

Siegtal pur 2025 - Three districts are ready

Siegburg/Altenkirchen/Siegen. Two is good, but sometimes three is definitely better: at least that's true for Siegtal pur. After the Siegen-Wittgenstein district did not take part in the big cycling event last year for financial reasons, the three districts will once again be the full line-up of organizers in 2025. This means that from Siegburg via Betzdorf to Netphen, around 115 kilometers of the Siegtal will once again belong to cyclists and inline skaters on Sunday, 6 July.
