We have listed 20 TOP excursion destinations in our overview. Many of them are also ideal for four-legged companions. However, our highlights are as follows:

  • Niederfischbach Zoo (please note that dogs must be kept on leads): ideal for families with dogs - lots of animals, lots of nature
  • Thalhausermühle forest swimming pool: not intended for dogs, but there are wonderful walking paths in the area with access to water for people and animals
  • Raiffeisenturm on the Beulskopf: enjoy the view - and before/after an extended dog walk through the forest
  • Druidenstein near Kirchen-Herkersdorf: well-signposted hiking trails lead to the impressive basalt formation in the middle of the forest

Hiking trails with access to water

Especially on warm days, the proximity to water is particularly pleasant for dogs. Trails along the Sieg or Wied not only offer plenty of shade through deciduous forests, but also the opportunity to drink, cool off or simply take a dip. Our recommendations:

🌊 Siegsteig stages with access to water

Particularly beautiful: the stage around Wissen (Sieg) leads through a varied landscape and repeatedly along the river. Ideal for extended tours with refreshing breaks on the banks.

🌿 Wiedweg - 110 kilometres of pure nature hiking

The Wiedweg follows the course of the river from its source to its mouth. Many sections are quiet, close to nature and offer regular access to the Wied - perfect for curious sniffer noses.

⛰️ Druidenstein hiking trail (Kirchen/Sieg)

On this certified Wäller tour, you and your dog hike along shady forest paths through mystical landscapes to the impressive Druidenstein basalt cone. The trail is varied but not too demanding - a real nature experience.

The numerous circular and adventure trails in the region are also suitable for shorter tours. These are usually between 3 and 8 kilometres long and ideal for a leisurely walk with your dog.
