Bindweide mine visitor experience

Description

Good luck!
A journey to the treasures of the Earth – this experience invites you to take a trip into the impressive underground facilities of the former iron ore mine. On the guided tour, you will travel with the original mine train into the depths of the Bindweide shaft. This way, you will enter the mine along the same path that once led the miners from Steinebacher underground.

Equipped with a helmet and a lamp, you will venture into the old mine. The mine train takes you to the extraction sites deep within the mountain. In the old shafts and workings, the hard and dangerous work of up to 900 miners at the Bindweide mine becomes truly tangible as the original pneumatic drills drive their chisels into the rock with deafening noise. The circular path through the mine quickly reveals the efforts made here to extract over 5 million tons of ore.

For over 200 years, iron ore was mined in the Bindweide mine until the mining operations ceased in 1931. Since 1986, the Bindweide mine has again been one of the few accessible show mines in Germany. With complete modernization in 2013/14, the visitor mine Bindweide today offers an unforgettable experience for the whole family.

A modern visitor center with a museum and a mine forge turn the historical mining into an experience for young and old, families and groups. A hiking trail leads to the Barbaraturm – an imposing hoisting and observation tower. We look forward to your visit!
