This innovative LEADER project combines modern technology, multimedia storytelling and real-life locations to create a unique urban experience – perfect for anyone wishing to rediscover culture, industrial heritage and regional identity. From industrialisation and cultural milestones to personal stories from the town itself: the tour showcases Herdorf in all its facets and turns every stop into an unforgettable experience.

The Herdorf History Tour transforms a stroll through Herdorf into a vivid journey through time. Artfully designed Corten steel steles have been installed at historical sites throughout the town and can be accessed directly via QR codes on your smartphone. At each stop, a digital narrative begins, featuring images, sounds and augmented reality elements – guided by ‘Maria’, a virtual narrator inspired by the local poet Maria Homscheid.

📍 Landmarks such as the Friedrichshütte, the Hüttenhaus, Heinz Berndt’s villa and Maria Homscheid’s birthplace bring together the industrial, cultural and social aspects of the town’s history in a unique way. Each stele offers a new perspective, tells stories of people, work and change, and brings the past and present together.
