Those who want to understand how a mine really worked must not miss one place: the forge.
Because without forged tools – no work underground.
The new blacksmith shop of the Bindweide mine connects to this ancient tradition. It was built in 2014, just a few steps away from the historic original location. Where today the Barbarakapelle stands, once stood the old blacksmith shop – the heart of maintenance. Here, tools were forged, hammers repaired, drills adjusted, and iron connections welded so that operations in the mine could continue.
Experience tradition – swing the hammer yourself
In our current forge, history is not only told – it is made. During our regular blacksmith demonstrations, you will experience firsthand how iron comes to life in the fire.The special part:You get to lend a hand yourself! Together with our experienced blacksmiths, you will shape the glowing metal under their guidance. In the process, you will learn how much skill, strength, and feeling is involved in this ancient craft – and why the blacksmith used to be one of the most important men on the mine site.
When can you forge?
The forge is bookable in summer and winter.For groups, school classes, or clubs, we offer individual appointments upon request.
A blacksmithing demonstration lasts approx. 60–75 minutes.
Please note that the forge is only bookable for children aged 6 and above.

After the booking, the ticket will be paid for by invoice before the event.
A rescheduling is possible up to 48 hours before the start of the event. In this case, already paid costs will be fully credited to the newly agreed date.
In case of cancellations or changes less than 48 hours before the event, 100% of the costs will be charged.
Payment by invoice after booking.
