A different take on the harvest festival – what does our harvest have to do with a global idea?In keeping with the season, October’s Museum Sunday will focus on the theme of the harvest festival and explore how the great hardship faced by people in the 19th century gave rise to an idea that would later change the world.The famine of 1846–47 presented many people in the Westerwald with existential problems. Friedrich Wilhelm Raiffeisen recognised that long-term help required more than just charity. Through community self-help, the ‘Brotverein’ (bread association) and the collective procurement of seeds, important precursors to his later cooperative idea emerged.During their visit to the museum, guests will learn more about this history. To mark the harvest festival, there will be homemade pumpkin soup with Raiffeisen bread, as well as freshly pressed apple juice made from apples grown in local orchards.
Admission is free.
Sunday to the museum! The German Raiffeisen Museum invites you to visit free of charge on the first Sunday of every month from 2-6 pm.
A guided tour of the permanent exhibition is offered every hour on the hour.
Cost of the guided tour:
Adults €4 Children up to 6 years free Young people (7-17 years) and holders of an honorary card €2 Refreshments, coffee, cake and other snacks await visitors in the neighbouring Raiffeisenforum for a fee.
Just drop by, prior registration is not necessary.
